Position Overview:
The Health Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring that health and nutrition services for Head Start children are administered in accordance with State and Federal guidelines. This position requires an organized and compassionate individual who will oversee the implementation of health screenings and assessments. The Health Assistant will also be responsible for notifying families of any failed health screenings, ensuring appropriate follow-up care. The role is onsite, based in Los Angeles, CA, and requires in-person work five days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that health and nutrition services meet all State and Federal guidelines, particularly for Head Start children.
- Administer health screenings and assessments for children in the program, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Inform families of failed health screenings and assist with coordinating follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate health records for all children, ensuring that all required documentation is up-to-date and compliant with regulations.
- Work closely with families, staff, and healthcare providers to ensure children receive the necessary health services and interventions.
- Assist with the coordination of health and nutrition-related activities and services, including health education and resources for families.
- Support compliance with all program policies, procedures, and regulations related to health services.
- Participate in regular program reviews, audits, and health service evaluations to ensure continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with program staff and management to address any health-related concerns or challenges.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Health, Nursing, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a health-related role, ideally within a child care or educational setting.
- Knowledge of State and Federal guidelines regarding health and nutrition services, particularly in Head Start programs.
- Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with families, staff, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.
