The FLEX Company Lead Engineer (Ruby/Python/Data Full Stack)
The Flex Company is seeking a talented, full-time engineering lead to join our team to help our technology grow as quickly as our revenue by diving into our e-commerce platform, and evolving our technology stack to enable us to create best in-class experiences for our subscribers. This means both creating new features for our customers and collecting and serving data to our teammates so that they can make the best decisions possible. This role is pivotal to the future of technology at The Flex Company as you will set the direction for how data and applications are leveraged internally and externally.
This role will be at the heart of all engineering decisions at The Flex Company. You ll lead the engineering roadmap for The Flex Company, as a part of the Technology (Engineering, Product, UX/UI) team you will focus on continuing to develop our platform for a high-growth subscription service. This includes engineering challenges like re-architecting our front-end into a PWA (Progressive Web Application) or taking our current custom database and turning it into a true data warehouse.
You will be expected to help vet contracting partners, determine team growth needs, and contribute significantly on how to scale the engineering team. You will own code quality and drive the team to increase testing coverage.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience as a senior software engineer
  • Fluency in software engineering principles, design and processes
  • Strong understanding of data structures and architectural design principles
  • Considers themselves a full-stack developer:
  • Has mastered at least two programming languages, ideally one of those being Ruby or Python
  • Strong experience utilizing 3rd party APIs
  • Experience with front end development: Javascript (and one JS Framework, Node, React, etc.), CSS, HTML
  • Solid knowledge of relational DBs and how to organize data
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Repeatedly built and shipped successful products you are proud of
  • Experience building and scaling platforms through periods of high growth
  • Unafraid to ask for advice or help, but also enjoys teaching themselves new things
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Experience with Shopify/Recharge or any subscription based technology

IN 1 MONTH YOU WILL:
  • Meet and get to know the team
  • Understand the company' s mission, vision and values
  • Develop a deep understanding of our company s tech stack and product roadmap
  • Understand and create technical reports, KPIs, and other analytics
  • Become fully integrated in the technology team s day-to-day functions and get familiar with the codebase
IN 3 MONTHS YOU WILL:
  • Perform an audit of our tech stack to understand opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of upcoming UI/UX designs
  • Collaborate with product to t-shirt size future projects
  • Propose and create new reporting tools and metrics that are valuable to monitoring the stability of our site
IN 6 MONTHS YOU WILL:
  • Lead engineering team by example, instill important engineering values like code quality and testing in the team
  • Work closely with the Head of Product to review and iterate on the Technology team process
  • Look at key engineering team metrics to help improve team function (e.G. Velocity, cycle time)
  • Develop an engineering roadmap that allows us to continue growing both our custom and 3rd party applications
  • Spend 50% of your time coding and building new features and functionality
  • Spend 25% of your time on strategic initiatives
  • Spend 25% of your time on everything else that goes into your full time job that usually goes uncounted (meetings/ administrative tasks/ fighting fires/ etc.)
