Job Description
This role involves working in a hybrid environment with 2-3 days onsite at either their Los Angeles or New York office.
About the Role:
A global IT team is seeking an experienced Manager of Cloud Engineering to lead the cloud infrastructure initiatives. In this role, you’ll manage a team responsible for modernizing legacy systems, driving cloud technology adoption, and establishing best practices across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud infrastructure, hybrid systems, and on-premise architectures. You will oversee the Cloud Services team, manage cloud-related projects, and implement automation to streamline processes while enhancing security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Cloud Services team responsible for key platforms, technologies, and processes.
- Design and implement cloud-based, multi-region solutions on Azure, utilizing DevOps tools to modernize systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect secure, scalable cloud solutions.
- Employ Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to manage and provision Azure resources, such as virtual machines, containers, storage, and networks.
- Define infrastructure using tools like Terraform and Azure Resource Manager, leveraging CI/CD pipelines for seamless implementation.
- Act as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for junior team members and external stakeholders, providing L3 support as needed.
- Manage and troubleshoot Azure systems and applications, ensuring they perform optimally and securely.
- Design and enforce Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies within Azure AD, ensuring secure resource access.
- Optimize Azure infrastructure for performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, and security using best practices.
- Develop automation scripts and tools using PowerShell, Python, or similar utilities.
- Identify and recommend architectural changes to improve system stability and reliability.
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions and foster innovation.
- Provide infrastructure systems support and conduct root cause analysis.
- Maintain team workflows in Jira, document processes in Confluence, and lead team stand-ups.
Experience:
- 10+ years in enterprise IT infrastructure engineering.
- 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure in large-scale environments.
- 5+ years of experience leading cloud-focused teams.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Landing Zones, cloud migration projects, and hybrid environments.
- Expertise in infrastructure configuration tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell and/or Python.
- Strong understanding of identity solutions (Azure AD, Microsoft Active Directory, OKTA).
- Experience with both Windows Server and Linux OS.
- Proficiency with Git, Terraform, and AKS.
- Knowledge of cloud security controls, including network isolation, resource security, vulnerability management, and firewall configurations.
- Familiarity with private, public, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Practical knowledge of the OSI network model, WAN/LAN technologies, and network security.
Skills & Requirements:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to capture and document business requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders and lead discussions on project prioritization.
- Detail-oriented with strong decision-making skills and sound judgment.
- Flexibility to work across time zones and adapt to changing project demands.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent technical experience.
- Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications are highly preferred.
